Netbooks and Small Laptops - the future?
June 15th, 2009I’ve been looking more and more at the Netbooks and small laptops that are available on the market these days. Dell seem to have a wide range, and this only seems set to expand.
When Netbooks came out (often then known as Micro-Laptops) they were very much a different beast from other laptops on the market. 9 inch screen sizes, and running Linux, manufactured by companies such as Asus and the EEE PC.
More and more manufacturers such as Toshiba, Dell, HP, Compaq and Lenovo are getting in to the marketplace with the tiny laptop, and they the lines between the Netbook and small laptop are becoming more blurred.
Take Dell for instance - their Studio mini range not only has the Studio Mini 9 (with a Nine inch screen) but also a Studio Mini 10 (yes, you guessed it, 10 inch screen) and a Studio Mini 12. I also have it on good authority that there is a a Studio Mini 11 soon on the way! Not to mention that they have a Dell Studio 13, 14 and 15 somewhere in the range!
These machines more and more are becoming more fully featured, with functions such as TV tuners, and running Windows XP (No Windows Vista, thank you very much!) and with the advent of Windows 7 could well be genuine laptop replacements.
Where do we go from here? I don’t know, but I know that if I was in the market for a small laptop or Netbook, then I know there is a lot of choice, and they are perfect for people on the move.
I’ll try and get some reviews of some more Netbooks, Notebooks and Small Laptops up in the near future!
